Detailed Itinerary

Day 0, Sunday
Depart for Africa

Depart for Nairobi, Kenya - airport code NBO.

Day 1, Monday
Nairobi

Arrive in Kenya in the late afternoon or early evening. Meet and greet, and transfer to our hotel in Nairobi. Unwind from a long day of traveling, meet your hosts, and get to know your fellow travelers before enjoying a wonderful welcome dinner.

Days 2-5, Tuesday - Friday
Safari in the Maasai Mara

We start our day on Tuesday at Nairobi's domestic airport for our private chartered flight to the Mara. This flight saves over 10 hours of driving each way and takes us directly to our lodge. We immediately begin seeing wildlife, and this remains the theme for the next few days. We'll get up close and personal to everything from giant elephants to tiny antelope - and everything in between.

For the next 3 nights we will be staying in the incredible Leopard Hill Camp, situated in the middle of the private Mara Naboisho Conservancy. This conservancy sits adjacent to the world-famous Maasai Mara National Reserve and hosts what is arguably the best wildlife viewing on earth. The advantage of staying in the conservancy instead of the reserve is that we are free of the reserve’s restrictive rules and traffic. We can drive off road to follow a leopard, stay out as long as we wish, do night and walking safaris, and most uniquely, have the place basically to ourselves and not have to share each sighting with twenty or more other vehicles.

As far as wildlife, in addition to the same animals found in the reserve (they all move freely between the two), the conservancy is home to the largest concentration of lions anywhere on earth. All of the Big 5 are present, as well as untold numbers of other game. The animals here are more relaxed as well, so we’ll be able to get a lot closer and spend more time with them than on most other safaris.

Our lodge is a luxury tented camp, and we will be exclusively for our group. Each tent boasts incredible 360-degree views, a huge deck with a firepit, indoor and outdoor showers, and tons of amenities. At night, press a bedside button and watch a motorized overhead panel roll back, revealing a night sky covered in a million twinkling stars.

We’ll spend the next few days here doing morning and evening game drives, returning to the lodge for the middle part of the day when the animals are least active. We’ll relax a bit, have lunch, and then head out for a walking safari, a bird safari, or visit a local Maasai village. In the afternoon we’ll head out for another game drive, and stay out after dark to observe the nocturnal animals and hunting behavior with infrared spotlights.

On Friday morning we’ll do one final morning game drive before meeting the chartered plane at the airstrip for our flight to Zanzibar.

Days 5-8, Friday - Monday
Exotic Zanzibar

Say goodbye to Kenya as you board our chartered plane to the incredible island of Zanzibar. Known as the Spice Island, Zanzibar has been at the crossroads of cultures for millennia. Today it is an eclectic mixture of old and new and East and West, all set in a tropical paradise boasting some of the most beautiful beaches on earth

We'll drive through ancient towns and fragrant forests en route to our hotel on a stunning Indian Ocean beach, before settling in and getting ready for Shabbos. Chabad of Zanzibar is just a short walk away, and we'll head there for our Shabbos davening and meals.

Sunday and Monday will be spend enjoying the sights and sounds of this unique place. We'll tour the ancient city of Stone Town, visit a spice farm, explore the jungle and mangrove forests of Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park looking for monkeys.

Finally, on Monday afternoon, it is time to say goodbye with a final drive to the airport and your flight home.
